Retrospective: OzHarvest's Think.Eat.Save Event on the Gold Coast

From the depths of the archives, I recall my time volunteering for OzHarvest’s Think.Eat.Save event on the Gold Coast in Surfers Paradise at The 4217.

My role during the event became part of the social media marketing of the organisation’s Gold Coast page, documenting and photographing the event with the organiser’s iPhone.

The event is known as one of the most significant food rescue feasts held on Monday, July 25, 2016. Approximately 500 people were fed a free “rescued” meal.

Local restaurants and cafes donated the food for the event. Such donators included Gold Coast’s Goldsteins Bakery. They showcased their skills by taking boxes of rescued bananas and transforming them into delicious banana cakes. OzHarvest added its own sustainable touch to the lunch, as volunteers took to the “smoothie bikes” and powered up some smoothies for the public to enjoy, as shown through the images I captured during the day.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness regarding the issue of food waste, particularly our household waste, which can add up to an estimated $8 billion in food that Australians waste over a year.
